Motivational interviewing (MI) is a client-centered, goal-oriented counseling approach designed to enhance intrinsic motivation for change by resolving ambivalence.

MI is a therapeutic technique developed by William Miller and Stephen Rollnick in the 1980s. It aims to help individuals find their own motivation to change behaviors by fostering a collaborative and empathetic environment. MI is particularly effective for people who are ambivalent about change, allowing them to explore their feelings and motivations in a supportive setting.
