About ME

Lizzie Stevenson, MS, LMFT, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Colorado and California and a trained mediator with extensive experience supporting families through divorce, post-divorce restructuring, co-parenting transitions, and blended family integration. As the founder of Denver Adolescent Therapy Group and co-founder of Stevenson Heywood Mediation & Consulting, Lizzie brings over a decade of clinical, supervisory, and program development experience to collaborative divorce work. She has worked extensively with high-conflict families, step-parent dynamics, loyalty binds, and complex custody arrangements, always with a focus on protecting children’s emotional security and long-term resilience.

Lizzie’s approach is grounded in attachment theory, child development science, and family systems. She integrates research on trauma, emotional regulation, and the vagal nervous system to help parents understand how conflict, grief, remarriage, and shifting family roles impact children at both psychological and neurobiological levels. In blended family systems, she supports parents in navigating role clarity, boundary setting, discipline alignment, and the developmental needs of children adjusting to multiple households. Her work emphasizes strength-based co-parenting and step-family stabilization, helping families move from reactivity and fragmentation toward structure, predictability, and relational health.

In addition to her clinical work, Lizzie has developed and supervised robust internship programs, taught at the graduate level, and provided consultation on parenting plans and child-centered mediation frameworks. She is skilled at translating complex emotional dynamics—such as divided loyalties, unresolved grief from the original divorce, and step-parent integration challenges—into structured, practical agreements that courts and professionals can rely on. Her facilitation style is calm, organized, and child-focused—balancing empathy with accountability and forward movement.

Lizzie is deeply committed to the collaborative model because it aligns with her belief that families can reorganize with dignity, clarity, and integrity. She works closely with attorneys, financial professionals, and mental health colleagues to ensure that legal decisions are informed by developmental science and that both original and blended family systems are supported in building long-term stability, healthy boundaries, and resilient co-parenting partnerships that serve children well beyond the divorce process.
